These Rules are part of the OpenChar platform. They explain what content and behavior are allowed and prohibited on the Service, alongside our Terms of Service, Privacy Policy, and applicable law. They apply to all users, and to all content — including characters, character cards, personas, chats, messages, images, avatars, and profiles — and to all surfaces of the Platform (website and Telegram Mini App).
The Service is available only to users 18 years of age or older (Terms of Service, Section 2). Where 18+ (adult, NSFW) features are enabled, they remain subject to these Rules, the platform's age gates, and applicable law.
We use a combination of automated systems and human review to detect and assess possible violations, and we may action content or accounts at our discretion (see "Enforcement" below).
1. Child Safety — Absolute Prohibition
Protecting minors is our highest priority. The following prohibitions are absolute, override any other consideration, and apply everywhere on the Platform — including chats in private, fictional, fantastical, or "aged-up" framing:
- Sexual, romantic, or intimate content involving characters who are, appear to be, or could be interpreted as under 18, including non-human characters;
- Characters whose age is unclear, ambiguous, or not clearly established as 18+; when in doubt, characters must be unmistakably adults;
- Realistic or human-like depictions of minors in any sexual context, drawn or generated;
- Content that sexualizes or is framed around the appearance, behavior, or coding of minors — including "aged-up" characters whose canon source depicts them as minors, and descriptions of romantic coding of characters with childlike features;
- Uploading, sharing, or generating any sexualized imagery of real or fictional minors, including as AI-prompt input.
Violations lead to immediate account termination and, where required by applicable law, referral to law enforcement. Background, non-sexual mentions of minors (e.g., "the character has a teenage daughter") are tolerated only when they are incidental and carry no development, interaction, or focal role for that minor character.
2. Non-Consent and Coercion
We do not allow:
- Content that depicts, promotes, or instructs on sexual violence, coercion, or exploitation, including "sextortion", revenge-porn scenarios, or threats to publish intimate content;
- Non-consensual intimate imagery or intimate imagery of real people (see Section 7);
- Extortion, blackmail, trafficking, or human/sexual exploitation scenarios presented approvingly;
- Content that sexualizes incapacitation (e.g., unconscious persons in sexual scenarios) in a manner that removes consent.
Dark, fictional themes may appear in roleplay, but content that celebrates, instructs on, or normalizes real-world coercion is not permitted.
3. Animals and Non-Human Creatures
We do not allow:
- Sexual content involving real animals;
- Sexual content involving fictional creatures that cannot meaningfully consent — a fictional creature may qualify only if it demonstrably possesses (i) adult human-level intelligence, (ii) ability to communicate, and (iii) capacity to consent; content failing any of those three criteria is prohibited;
- Sexualized content of creatures closely resembling real animals, even if mythical.
Anthropomorphic characters that are clearly fictional, adults and consenting may be permitted within 18+ features.
4. Violence, Self-Harm, and Dangerous Acts
We do not allow:
- Instruction or encouragement of self-harm, suicide, or disordered eating;
- Glorification or celebration of graphic violence, torture, gore, cannibalism, or dismemberment;
- True-crime recreations involving identifiable real victims or real criminals;
- Instructions for weapons, explosives, or chemical/biological harm;
- Content depicting gratuitous violence, shock imagery, or imagery intended to disgust (e.g., exposed organs, mutilation).
5. Hate, Harassment, and Discrimination
We do not allow:
- Hate speech or harmful stereotypes based on race, ethnicity, national origin, religion, disability, gender, age, sexual orientation, or gender identity;
- Use of slurs directed at real communities or individuals;
- Harassment, bullying, stalking, threats (including death threats, threats of violence, or threats of doxxing);
- Doxxing — sharing personal data of anyone without their consent;
- Sexualized depictions of religious figures, symbols, or acts of worship;
- Content idolizing historical hate figures or atrocities.
6. Real People and Real-World Events
We do not allow:
- Characters impersonating real, named people — public figures, private individuals, or AI-generated media that could be taken as depicting them — without clear and documented consent;
- Sexual or intimate content of real, living people (even with consent) — this format is not supported on the Platform;
- Images of real people that could be mistaken for authentic photographs ("deepfake" style);
- Content depicting living politicians, dictators, terrorist organizations or specific named criminal organizations;
- Glorification of real-world tragedies, wars, or acts of violence.
Clearly fantastical characters whose name coincidentally matches an unrelated name are not automatically in breach; our moderation decides based on recognizability and context.
7. Image Generation Standards
Avatars, character images, and profile content must be appropriate for public display in the context in which they are shown:
- The public catalog, character cards, avatars, and profiles must not contain nudity or explicit sexual imagery — this content is only allowed inside 18+-gated features (such as private chats and generation flows) after the user has passed the age gate;
- Images must not depict minors, real people (per Section 6), animals (per Section 3), or prohibited violence/hate content;
- We may reject or remove any image that fails these standards at moderation discretion, even where the textual content was permitted;
- Where the Service offers styles or poses, we may publish style-specific constraints — those constraints form part of these Rules.
8. Platform Integrity
We do not allow:
- Advertising, spam, chain letters, or solicitation of payments for causes/products outside the Platform;
- Deliberately steering users to competing platforms;
- Impersonation of staff or of other users; creation of multiple accounts to circumvent quotas, limitations, or moderation actions;
- Malware, scraping, automated abuse, or attempts to circumvent security, rate limits, or moderation;
- Intellectual-property infringement — content that infringes copyrights, trademarks, or likeness rights may be removed upon valid report (see "Copyright" below);
- Links to or references of illegal content, or to real-person adult content;
- Financial solicitation or begging outside standard support features.
9. AI and Prompting Honesty
Because the Platform runs on AI:
- Prompts attempting to trick the models into producing prohibited content (child sexualization, hate content, hate speech, non-consent scenarios, etc.) are themselves violations, even where generation is ultimately blocked;
- Attempting to deliberately bypass moderation filters, or the use of "jailbreak" scaffolds designed to produce content outside these Rules, is not permitted;
- Repeated attempts to elicit prohibited content can result in account restriction even where no content was successfully generated.
10. Enforcement
We may:
- reject, restrict, hide, or remove content;
- issue warnings;
- suspend or permanently terminate accounts.
Factors considered: severity, repetition, intent, the presence of illegal conduct, and whether harm may extend beyond the Platform. From most content violations we aim to notify the affected user of actions on their content.
11. Reporting and Appeals
- Report content or accounts using the in-app "Report" function or by contacting support@openchar.app. You do not need to have an account to submit a report.
- Appeals: if your own content or account was actioned and you believe in error, contact support@openchar.app (see "Appeals", Terms §18.5). We review appeals and confirm the outcome; wrongly actioned content or accounts are reinstated promptly.
- Illegal content: surveillance-grade reports of priority illegal content (child sexual exploitation, terrorism, threats to life) may be escalated to law enforcement.
- We aim to acknowledge reports within 7 days.
12. Copyright
If you believe your copyrighted work has been infringed on the Platform, contact support@openchar.app with: (a) identification of the copyrighted work; (b) identification of the infringing material and its location on the Platform; (c) your contact information; (d) a good-faith statement that the use is unauthorized; and (e) a statement, under penalty of perjury, that you are authorized to act on behalf of the right owner. See also Terms of Service, Section 7.
These Rules may change over time. Material changes will be communicated on the Platform per our Terms of Service, Section 19. Continued use after changes take effect constitutes acceptance.
